I think I read somewhere that in the Snover ep, Ash is training Grotle for Snowpoint gym. We all know Staraptor and Chimchar/Monferno are gonna participate. That leaves one slot.*Buizel: I hope not. Powerful as it is, it's been used in every gym battle since the trade.
*Gliscor: Possible, especially given its recent learning of Fire Fang.
*Pikachu: Entirely possible, moreso because of Iron Tail.
Now, here's how I predict the battle to play out.
Candice starts with Snover and Ash responds with Staraptor. It starts snowing. Staraptor dives in for Aerial Ace and Snover knocks it back with Ice Shard and follows up with Razor Leaf. Staraptor tries a Close Combat but misses; the snowstorm is messing with its vision. Ash tells Staraptor to use Whirlwind, then Brave Bird. Staraptor does so; Whirlwind blows the snow away, and before Snover can react, Brave Bird KOs it. Candice then sends out Sneasel. Ash commands a Close Combat, which hurts Sneasel greatly. Sneasel then uses Faint Attack, and before it can fire off Blizzard, Ash switches Staraptor out and calls in Grotle, which surprises everyone. Grotle, however, takes the blizzard like it's nothing and responds with Energy Ball. Sneasel shoots a Dark Pulse which fights the Energy Ball, but loses. Sneasel is down, but not out, and tries Slash, but Grotle responds with Tackle. The weight of Grotle's body adds to Tackle's strength and Sneasel faints. Candice sends out Medicham. Grotle shoots a Razor Leaf off, which Medicham dodges with Hi Jump Kick. Ash tells Grotle to stand its ground, but it dodges instead; it stumbles out of the way and Medcham plows into the ground. The ref is about to declare Medicham out, when it Psychics itself out of the ground, and delivers an Ice Punch. Grotle is KOed. Ash sends out Pikachu. After a few Iron Tail to Ice Punch clashes, Pikachu KOs Medicham with a massive Thunderbolt. Candice sends in her final Pokemon- a shiny Abomasnow! Another snowstorm brews. Pikachu starts with Iron Tail, which hits its mark. Abomasnow, however, shrugs it off and responds with Ice Shard. Pikachu takes it well, however, and lunges into Volt Tackle. Abomasnow counters with the equally powerful and dangerous Wood Hammer. A magnificent crash. Abomasnow is still standing, but Pikachu is out. Ash sends out Monferno. Monferno's Flame Wheel keeps missing due to the snow, but Abomasnow's Blizzard is AIDED by the weather. Monferno, weakened, goes in for Mach Punch, but Abomasnow responds with Wood Hammer,KOing it. Ash sends out Staraptor and has it use Whirlwind. The snow clears. Staraptor uses Aerial Ace, but is stopped by Ice Shard, a'la Snover. This time, however, Staraptor is really damaged, its right wing is hurt. Ash realizes a flightless Staraptor is next to useless in battle and is about to forfeit, but Staraptor gives a shrill, angry cry when Ash tries to give up. Ash stares at Staraptor, who flaps its wings bravely, albeit wincing slightly. Ash asks if it's sure. It nods. Ash then tells Staraptor to use Brave Bird. Abomasnow responds with Wood Hammer. Another magnificent collision, only NEITHER ONE is KOed! Both of them stand there, glaring at one another, breathing heavily, Staraptor moreso than Abomasnow. Ash hesitates, then tells Staraptor to try Aerial Ace. Staraptor determinedly flies up, wincing on every flap, then dives at Abomasnow, who is too tired to respond with Ice Shard in time. Abomasnow faints.
