I could see this new region being connected to Unova as Johto was to Kanto. GF did seem to position Unova as "the new Kanto", so it would make sense. And I agree that there was enough given to the PCs through BW's story to compose a team (Volcarona, Elemental Monkeys, Zoroark, Archeops/Carracosta (depending on X Version or Y Version), and Reshiram/Zekrom (again, version dependent)). The only problem I see is the starter, which would need to be replaced by a constant Pokémon (like Blue/Green was given as a replacement for his starter in GSC/HGSS).
