List of Hindi Pokmon names

From Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia.

This list is a record of the official Hindi spellings for Pokémon names. Names are listed by number in the order dictated by the National Pokédex, meaning that Pokémon from the Kanto region will appear first, followed by those from Johto, Hoenn, and subsequent regions.

Initially, Pokémon were referred to by their English names in Hindi-language media such as the anime. With the Hindi-language launch of Pokémon GO on September 15, 2023, The Pokémon Company introduced a new set of Pokémon names localized into Hindi. However, many names (particularly in Generation I) remain transliterations of their English-language counterparts.

Trivia

  • Prior to version 1.12.1.4 of Pokémon UNITE (released October 18, 2023), the English names of Pokémon orthographically transcribed into Devanāgarī script were used in-game.
  • Prior to version 2.0.5 of Pokémon Smile (released November 6, 2023), the English names of Pokémon written in the Latin alphabet were used in-game. However, the game used Hindi terms written in Devanagari script for other Pokémon terminology.

Pokémon GO

  • In version 0.255.0 of Pokémon GO (released November 18, 2022), the Hindi translation of the game was added to the internal data. Pokémon with National Pokédex numbers up to #0898 used their English names orthographically transcribed into Devanāgarī script, while Pokémon with National Pokédex numbers #0899 and above used their English names in Latin script. Because Hindi could not yet be selected as a language option, these names could not be seen in-game.
  • In version 0.279.1 of Pokémon GO (released August 8, 2023), the localized Hindi names of Pokémon with National Pokédex numbers #0899-#0905 replaced their English names.
    • Gimmighoul's name was also replaced, but using Gholdengo's Hindi name अमीरगो Amīrgo (Ameergo) instead of Gimmighoul's name येबिलेरू Yebilerū (Yebileru).
  • In version 0.281.0 of Pokémon GO (released August 30, 2023), the localized Hindi names of most Pokémon replaced the previous transcriptions.
However, several Pokémon's names differ:
  • Corviknight uses the name क्रोवीर Krovīr (Crowveer) instead of क्रोआर्मर Kroārmar (Crowarmor).
  • Nickit uses Corviknight's Hindi name क्रोआर्मर Kroārmar (Crowarmor) instead of फ़ॉक्सेरा Fŏkserā (Foxera).
  • Ferroseed, Inkay, and Wooloo's names have a trailing space.
  • The following 18 Pokémon continue to use the previous transcriptions of their English names.
